Swisscross-Air-Race begeisterte Nils Wettach: Tage der offenen Tür auf dem Flugplatz Unterbach

Am Wochende zogen die Tage der offenen Tür auf dem Flugplatz Unterbach sehr viel Publikum an. Es ging dabei zwar weder um ein Flugzeug-Rennen noch um eine eigentliche Flugschau. Flugplatzkommandant Paul Schild sprach von normalen Übungen. Eine viel beachtete Schau war es aber schon, wenn zwei Tiger und zwei Hornets tief über dem Flugplatz in dichter Formation vorüberflogen um dann in verschiedenen Richtungen in die Wolken aufzusteigen. Die Tiger landeten mit Fallschirmen, die Hornets spektakulär im Kabel. Auch sonst gabs auf dem Flugplatz sehr viel Informatives und Spannendes zu sehen.
Die ganze Crew des Flugplatzes war für die Besucher im Einsatz: Bei den Polymech-Stiften konnte ein Souvenir gebastelt werden. In einer Pause schauten sich die beiden Lehrlinge Alex Blatter (links) und Nils Wettach die Flugschau an.

Lowe's Auction attracts bargain-seekers in Salt Lake City - Toni Wettach and her mother

Starting with the parking lot, buyers get their first clues about how many good buys the auction will yield.
If there are too many cars, there will be too many buyers, and that means more bids and higher prices, Bart Crable counseled as he searched for bargains at the big auction Thursday at the old Lowe's warehouse. (...)
Among the bidders were mother-and-daughter-team Donna King and Toni Wettach, who had roamed the aisles the day before, picking out what they wanted and discussing bidding strategies. Wettach bid on a pallet of cinder block but was content let it go, even though an outside wall needs repair. "The woman paid twice the retail price," she laughed.
But Wettach still wanted a refrigerator, wall oven and shingles if she could get a deal.

No.# 1 in Iowa: Matthew Wettach earns presidential service honor

It was the first time in Todd Liechty's career in education that he has even seen The President's Volunteer Service Award, and the heavy medallion that comes with it, much less conferred one onto a student.
The Mt. Pleasant high school principal presented the award to Matthew Wettach last night prior to the start of the National Honor Society inductions, in which Matthew also participated.
Matthew was recognized Monday night at the Mt. Pleasant school board meeting as receiving the honor; only the paperwork and the hardware had not arrived from Washington, D.C. However, they were available last night and given to Wettach as the Iowa high school volunteer service selectee. "He's number one in Iowa," Liechty said.
Last December, the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network, a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C, named Matt a "Daily Point of Light".
Matthew created an ongoing program called "Write Smart," designed to provide the basic school supplies for kindergarten children in the Mt. Pleasant area who have been identified as economically disadvantaged.
Using the proceeds earned from his summer lawn-mowing job, he decided to provide each student with a backpack filled with the materials listed on area school supply lists.
In addition to the supplies, he enclosed a hand-written note encouraging the child to do his or her best in school throughout the year.
Project volunteers at the Tolson Community Action Center in Mt. Pleasant filled a total of 32 backpacks with materials. The cost of each pack with materials was $71.42 and the total cost of the project was $2,285.44.
"This is very rewarding that others notice the time you put into [volunteering]," Wettach said. "It's also encouraging to keep doing [the project]."
As a junior he has another couple of summers in which to mow lawns and raise money to put more book bags together for kids.
Principal Liechty described Wettach as "a great kid" and "a fantastic young man.
"He's very intelligence, but you'd never know it, because he is so easy to be around. He has so many things going for him, but he's humble and just wants to fit in."
He noted that Matt is the only student from Iowa to receive this award. He will go on now for national consideration among the other 49 honorees in the country.
"I'm not sure," Liechty added, "but I think he just might get the national award, too."

Das Erbe des Adrian Wettach - Grockland nimmt Gestalt an - Finanzierung noch offen

St. Imier. SDA/baz. Bis 2009 soll in St. Imier im Berner Jura eine Freizeitstätte zu Ehren des aus der Region stammenden Clowns Grock errichtet werden. Der Verein Grockland hat am Freitag das Projekt vorgestellt. Noch fehlen aber ein Finanz- und Businessplan.

Die Anlage umfasst ein grosses Gebäude mit einer Musik-Halle. Im 300-plätzigen Saal sollen pädagogische aber auch spielerische Aktivitäten Platz finden, wie Laurent Diercksen, Direktor des Vereins Grockland, am Freitag vor den Meiden sagte.

Die Anlage inspiriere sich an der Epoche und den Lebensumständen zu Grocks Zeit von 1880 bis 1959.

«Wir wollen realistisch bleiben»

Angesichts der Schwierigkeiten mancher Themenparks, kamen die Verantwortlichen von ihrem urpsrünglichen Projekt, einem eigentlichen Freizeitpark, ab. «Wir wollen realistisch bleiben», betonte Vereinspräsident Jean Vaucher. Der Verein rechnet mit 50 000 bis 60 000 Besuchern pro Jahr.

Dass die Freizeitstätte in St. Imier gebaut werden soll, hat unter anderem finanzielle Hintergründe. Im Rennen waren nämlich auch Pruntrut und Delsberg im Kanton Jura. St.Imier wurde ausgewählt, weil die Gemeinde das Gebäude und das Land gratis zur Verfügung stellt, Zustimmung der Stimmberechtigten vorbehalten.

Noch nicht geregelt ist die Finanzierung der Freizeitstätte. Entsprechende Verhandlungen mit privaten Investoren und der öffentlichen Hand seien im Gang. Der Clown Grock, mit bürgerlichem Namen Adrian Wettach, stammt aus Loveresse im Berner Jura.

Heisse Rennen auf schwieriger Piste: Wettachs aus Brienz vorne dabei auf Ski und Snowboard

Am Samstag herrschte Bilderbuchwetter auf Axalp. Der passende Rahmen für das jährliche Clubrennen der Skiclubs Brienz und Axalp. Die Rennstrecke Windegg war nicht ganz leicht zu fahren. Doch genau das machte den Reiz für die Clubmitglieder aus. Der Skiclub Axalp hatte dieses Jahr in allen Belangen die Nase vorn. Gut abgeschnitten dabei die Wettach Familien aus Brienz: Beim Snowboard der Herren kamen in der Gruppe Senioren II Beat Wettach auf Platz 4, Hans Wettach auf Platz 7, in der Rennklasse kam Nils Wettach sogar auf den 2. Platz.

Verein Grockland will Treffpunkt für Verspielte in Saint-Imier - Adrian Wettach in seiner Heimat gedenken

Der Verein Grockland will seine Freizeitstätte zu Ehren des aus dem Berner Jura stammenden Clowns Grock (1880-1959) in Saint-Imier errichten. Damit kommt die Region zum Zug, aus der Grock stammt.

Geprüft hatte er auch die Standorte Pruntrut und Delsberg im Kanton Jura. Nun hat der Verein den Entscheid zu Gunsten von Saint-Imier bekanntgegeben. Noch nicht gesichert ist die Finanzierung des Vorhabens. Auch zum Konzept des Freizeitorts äusserte sich der Verein noch nicht.

Grock (eigentlich Adrian Wettach) sei in weiten Teilen der Welt ein Begriff, betont der Verein. Es gelte nun, dieses Renommee auch an seinem Herkunftsort zur Geltung zu bringen.
