Mercer Island football teamThe Islanders, coached by Dick Nicholl, edged Inglemoor 17-14 on Greg Mahony's 30-yard field goal in the final minute to win the nonleague season opener. Timothy Wettack and Steven Frankel each had a rushing touchdown for Mercer Island.
